  1. The proverb "opportunity only knocks once" is defined in several different ways depending on whoever is asking. To me, it means that you have only once chance to make a first impression and you should do your best to make sure that it's right the first time because that first impression sticks with you forever.
An example explaining the proverb is when you meet someone important and your future depends on it, you want to make sure you are well-composed but if you introduce yourself poorly they will not think as well of you if you were professional.

  2. Opportunity only knocks once is a proverb that has various important meanings. First of all, it means that you get one great opportunity in your life. The decision you make whether to take that opportunity can make or break you. It can mean to better you for the rest of your life. Opportunity is the chance at something great; it can mean a lifetime of great things or depression.
An example at this certain proverb is the great basketball star, Dwayne Wade. Out of high school he hadn't been accepted by any of the big schools. Instead, he was taken by Marquette. Then coming out of Marquette, he became one of the best basketball players ever. He played on the men's national team for the US and for the Miami Heat, winning a national championship.

  3. When people say Opportunity Only Knocks Once, its like saying this isnt going to happen again. When opportunity strikes, one must seize the opportunity opening up new doorways. If you do not take them then you could have misssed your big break and live the rest of your life as a hobo.

One example of missing an opportunity is dropping out of college, something many people only get one chance to do. Another example would be a good chance to ask someone you like out on a date, or buying lottery ticket. These things can easily change your life, and if you pass them up, life may stink.

  4. To me, the proverb "Opportunity only knocks once" means that in life you have one chance to do the best you can at whatever it is. Having that one chance when "Opportunity knocks" means having ONE time to really apply yourself into the situation.
Something that reminds me of "Opportunity only knocks once" is making your life worth while. Making your life worth while doesn't mean you have to break all of the rules... but it mostly means living a super fun, loving, and caring life. NEVER do something you'll regret later, and ALWAYS do something that you would regret not doing in the future. Live every second like it's your last.

  5. Opportunity only knocks once is a saying that I believe in some cases. The truth to the saying is that you only have one chance for that opportunity but If you work hard you can regain that chance. A perfect example for you have one opportunity but it swings back around to you was my 7th grade to 8th grade year. Those years were probably the years where I gained most of my maturity because in 7th grade I did not make my basketball team , yet with hard work and dedication I made the basketball team. In conclusion I do feel like opportunity only knocks once if you do not work hard. However if you missed it and you work hard to regain that opportunity , then i believe you deserve a second chance.

  6. The proverb "opportunity only knocks once" means if you get a good opportunity to do something, you should make the most out of it because you may only get that opportunity once. I think it is a good phrase to use because it can apply to anyone in life.
An example of this proverb could be if you try hard to get good grades and get into a good college, or if you do not try and get into a bad college, you will never have an opportunity to go back and change that.

  7. "Opportunity only knocks once" is a widely used expression. I have heard it many times from people like my parents. It means that you only have one chance to do something so make the best of it. It also means that you need to take risks sometimes when they are available. Or that we need to open up new doors and walk through them before they close.

Take me for example, I am a perfect candidate for this proverb. I have messed up in school once or twice before, but now a new opportunity has opened up for me. I got into a very privileged school and now I really need to do my best. So this is not my first time hearing this, as it has been said to me many times before.

  8. Opportunity only knocks once means to me that once you get to the point in your life where you can can perspire your dreams then you take advantage of it. Opportunity is selfish but when it finally comes around you better never let it go. "You only get one shot, do not let your chance to blow"(Eminem).

Opportunity came around for me when i made that final shot to win my AAU basketball game. My coach didn't think i was good enough to start but he finally put me in the game when we were losing and i won the game for us. After this moment, my coach started me and now thinks higher of me.

  9. The phrase, Opportunity only knocks, once means that second chances are never guaranteed.I mean if you are given an opportunity what is the point of wasting time and not taking advantage. Not to to be corny, but YOLO actually has alot of truth behind it. You don't ever want to be the guy regretting that he did not take advantage of his chance.
For example, it's like if there was a girl you liked for a while and you thought that maybe she liked you too. When this dream girl finally comes around you just pass your opportunity by and not tell her your true feelings. Then like 10 years later you still regret that you never let her know how you felt and that just sucks.

  10. I believe that the proverb "opportunity only knocks once" means that very once in a while, you will be offered a special opportunity, and you have to decide whether or not to take it. This opportunity may seem like it is "once in a life time", but the truth is that you may get another chance later in a few years. Usually, an opportunity never "knocks once", it almost always comes every once in a while. "A while" can range anywhere from one year to a few decades, but you will still be offered the same chance again. There is always next time.
A perfect example of this would be the Summer Olympics. These games only come every four years, and if you are an athlete that is offered the opportunity to participate in them, then you should seize this opportunity while you can . This applies more to older athletes who may not be able to qualify for the games later since they are rapidly aging and will not have the same athletic ability as they used to.

  11. "Opportunity only knocks once" is a proverb that could be interpreted in many ways. While some may take it as an excuse to make unwise or irrational decisions, I see it as a reminder that every event in your life will only happen once in exactly the same way, and that on every occasion you should be having as much fun as possible, applying yourself as hard as possible, soaking up life, and making responsible choices that you will not regret later. So, in some ways, it is not a proverb, but an actual life philosophy.
An example of this ideaology that many could relate to is your one shot at high school. Obviously you need to make good choices and study hard so that you can live a successful adult life, but at the same time, it is your last four years of pure childhood before you're off to college and then to work. Clearly those are four years that you need to fill with as much pure fun as you can manage, and seize every opportunity you can find.

  12. What does “Opportunity only knocks once” really mean to me? Well if I had to sum it up, it means that someone may only have one chance to do something, so why not make it your best, because it may be your last. If someone puts in effort or attitude like it is the last time they will be able to do something, it will make it all worthwhile. Even if it is not the last time someone is not doing something they should treat it like it is the last, because you can never know what will happen.

I have experienced an “Opportunity only knocks once” moment this year, when I was at camp. This was my last year at camp and I can never go back as a camper again. I wanted to try everything and do new things because I knew it was my last opportunity to be at camp and be with my friends. Now that I am home I am happy that I tried everything because I will never get to do it again

  13. In life there are not always second chances, and you only have one shot to reach your goal. This is a very difficult proverb to live by because with only one chance there can be no mistakes. The proverb is overall saying to not to mess up the one time of becoming a star and making it to the top. There can be no mistakes or mess ups because that moment will never come again. This proverb explains alot in life, and changes how people go about handling the one chance they have. Overall do not mess up the one chance you have to make it in life because it may never come again.
There are many examples that come to mind, but a main one to me is the NFL Combine. This is where the NFL test your strength, power, and speed yo see you should make into the NFL. There is no other chances to try again because you only have on shot to impress the NFL teams. There will alwasy be winners and losers at the end of the day because some do not take advantage of that oppuernunity. In conclusion, oppurnunity only comes once in a lifetime and we should always take advantage of it.

  14. This proverb means to me that chances come and go, so when they come you have to grab them and never let go. There are so many opportunities or chances that only come once in life. You never know when those opportunities come so you have to take every one that you are presented with before it's too late. Because you never know, those opportunities could change your life. Sure some can only make a small change in your life but almost everyone would rather take an opportunity that probably will only change you a little than not taking it and regretting and not knowing what could've been.
The first example that comes to mind is another saying people use called YOLO. It stands for you only live once. It means that you have to take risk, you have to take chances because you don't have another life to redo what you have done. So you have to make something out of your life because there are no second chances. This is exactly like "opportunity only knocks once" because it's saying to take risk even if you're scared because there can be a greater outcome than you could imagine.
